<p>Process is claimed for biologically purifying effluent water. Improvement is than the sludge suspension present in a reservoir is drawn off by a pump and returned after saturation with oxygen. Programmed vols. of fresh effluent are fed into the suspension without prior treatment, such as sedimentation, and the mixt. in the reservoir is only stirred after the short exogenous phase, i.e. the phase during which the flocculation-producing bacteria absorb additional substrate, has elapsed. - The effluent is now allowed to settle in the reservoir and then discharged, denitrification being effected by maintaining anoxic conditions in the reservoir. Arrangement is such that the complete cycle of subsequent phases takes place discontinuously whereby the reservoir acts as reactor and sedimentation vessel.</p> |
