PURPOSE:To make treatment of an end face shorter and easier without the need for skill and to make maintenance such as exchanging and cleaning of a blade easy by heating a plastic optical fiber in the gripped part to soften and cutting the part projecting from the gripper. CONSTITUTION:A gripper 3 is fitted onto a plastic optical fiber 1. A protective covering 2 is preliminarily removed from said fiber for the length (l) from the end face so that the fiber projects from the end of the gripper 3. An external screw part 41 to be screwed to the gripper 3 and an insertion hole 42 are provided to a fixer 4 constituted of a metal, etc. For example, an IR heater is provided as a heating means 5 and a cutting blade 6 is installed slidably along the top end of the gripper 3 so as to cross the fiber. After the fiber 1 is gripped by such device, the gripped part is heated to soften and thereafter the projecting part is cut, then the easy treatment of the end face to the smooth state is made possible. |
