PURPOSE:To decrease lateral shaking of a reproduced picture by changing a lateral shaking correcting signal with synchronism variation of a horizontal synchronizing signal in reproducing a signal while a magnetic tape is run intermittently to attain rejection of wow and flutter. CONSTITUTION:A periodic variation of a horizontal signal reproduced at each running of a magnetic tape 9 is detected by a periodic variation detecting circuit 14 and stored in a system control circuit 2. The lateral shaking correcting signal (f) correcting the variation of a head tape relative speed at the next running of the magnetic tape 9 is changed in response to such a periodic variation. The lateral shaking correcting signal corrected in this way is added to a drive signal (j) and fed to a head cylinder motor 7, the rotating speed of a rotary head 10 is controlled and the lateral shaking of the reproduced picture is corrected.
