PURPOSE:To enable display of a large-sized image having high resolving power by irradiating light from a light source for writing to a light emitting element provided with a color developing layer and an ion donative layer in tight contact with said layer to form a colored image, passing light from a light source for projection through said image and irradiating the transmitted light to a display surface. CONSTITUTION:A material which developes colors, i.e., absorbs light of a specific wavelength region by reaction with ion is used for a color developing layer 12. A material contg. the ion with which coloring reaction can be effected is used for an ion donative layer 11. If the light beam 21 emitted from a light source 2 for writing is irradiated to a light emitting element 1 formed by laminating these two layers on the surface of a base plate 13, the ion in the ion donative layer is implanted into the color developing layer by the effect of light energy, by which reaction is and the light irradiated part 14 in the color developing layer forms a color. The light from a light source 3 for projection is irradiated over the entire surface of the element 1 and the light transmitted therethrough is cast to a display surface 4. The colored part 14 is then displayed in magnification. |
