Process characterised in that the furnace is initially charged with a sufficient quantity of reducing metal salt to form a molten salt seal at the bottom of the internal vessel 56, a temperature and a pressure are established and maintained in the furnace to promote the desired redox reaction, the molten salt and at least a proportion of the excess reducing agent metal are removed from the furnace at the end of the redox reaction, the reducing agent metal which has not reacted is removed from the furnace by distillation while thus isolating the purified solid, reduced metal, and the purified, solid, reduced metal is recovered from the furnace. c. The invention relates to a process for recovery of a reduced and purified metal in a reduction and distillation furnace where the salt of the metal to be reduced reacts with a reducing agent metal to give a redox reaction. <IMAGE>
