According to this roof covering method, the layer of thermal insulation 1 is laid on the element 6 supporting the roof without fixing it to this element; a first waterproof layer 2 consisting of a sheet or bed 8 of fibres, coated on its external face with a thick bitumen layer 9 is then laid on the insulation layer 1; once the first waterproof layer 2 is well stretched, the assembly of the first waterproof layer 2 and the thermal insulation layer 1 is then fixed to the supporting element 6 mechanically, by means of nails, screws, rivets or other metal or plaster fasteners 7; finally, at least one other waterproof layer 3 is applied onto the bitumen coat 9 of the first waterproof layer 2 by welding, adhesive bonding, pasting or any other known bonding means. <IMAGE>
