The marine propulsion device comprises a power steering system 67 adapted to operably connect an actuator 52 to the propulsion unit for increasing the steering force applied to the propulsion unit by the actuator 52. The power steering system 67 is wholly supported on the propulsion unit and includes a hydraulic cylinder-piston assembly 68 including a cylinder 70, a piston 72, and an extendable and retractable piston rod 86 connected to the piston, and a control valve 114 connected to a source 100 of pressurized hydraulic fluid for selectively controlling the flow of hydraulic fluid to and from the opposite sides of the piston 72 to extend and retract the piston rod 86. The control valve 114 includes a valve member 118 and valve housing 116 rotatably and axially movable relative to each other. The valve member 118 is connected to the actuator 52 and the valve housing 116 is connected to the piston rod 86 for common movement and is connected to the propulsion unit to affect steering movement thereof in response to movement of the actuator 52. <IMAGE> |
