The depth-charge comprises a main charge, primary explosive, explosive tube and detonator. The detonator comprises a cylinder with a sealed piston. This has a pointed piston rod in line with the ignition mechanism. The cylinder also contains a counterbalancing arrangement. There is a pressure chamber on the other side of the piston. This is connected to the surroundings via several throttle channels. These are closed by various water pressure dependent valves that operate at different water pressures. There is also a shear arrangement which holds the piston in the rest position until a predetermined maximum pressure difference is reached. |
