The invention relates to a cleaning system in which compressed air is fed to the liquid cleaning agent in pulses in order to reinforce the cleaning effect and to save cleaning agent. The components of the cleaning system are arranged in such a way that the compressed air for the mechanical cleaning, usually with an operating excess pressure of 3-7 bar, can also be fed to a stream of cleaning agent which is at several times the operating excess pressure of the compressed air. In order to prevent cleaning agent entering the area of the compressed air system, a combination of non-return valves is arranged, between which there is a transparent safety connection which, as a predetermined break point, permits the excess pressure to escape in the event of a functional fault of the non-return valves.
