The valve arrangement (11) serves for pressuretight closing of a pressure medium duct (12) which runs in a housing (2) of a master cylinder (1). In the release position of the valve arrangement (11) illustrated, the pressure medium duct (12) connects the space (13) which is under atmospheric pressure to the working chamber (7) and closes this connection on actuation of the actuating piston (4). The sealing of the valve arrangement (11) takes place using an elastomerically deformable sealing element (32). In order to prevent damage of the sealing element (32), the cross-section of the pressure medium duct (12) which can be brought into contact with the sealing element (32) is narrowed. <IMAGE>
