A flexible partition (1) for a container (2), which partition is attached tightly to a sloping frame (3). The partition (1) is shaped in such a way that it can rest fully both on the one inner half of the wall and, when it has been pushed through the frame (3), on the opposite half of the wall. The partition (1) thus arranged in the container has a shell shape and only two corners (4) and is therefore subjected to considerably less mechanical strain when it is changed from one end position into the opposite end position than partitions of different shapes having more than two corners. If the container has an aperture (5) on each side of the partition, the container can be filled with different types of fluids which do not come into contact with one another. The fluids can also be exchanged for one another without "emptying". For example, a tank of a tanker fitted with this partition serves as a ballast tank. The ballast water remains clean on the non-loaded trip. This dispenses with considerable cleaning costs (tank procedure) and pollution of the sea. Unloading of clean ballast water and loading of crude oil can take place virtually without changing the trim at the loading pier. <IMAGE>
