Planting vessel with outer container and insert therein, which has a spacing therefrom all over, receives the plants and is at the bottom, via holes and lateral slots, connected to a water-collecting space of the outer container. The container outer wall covers the insert wall at least to a substantial height. The intermediate space is connected to the water-collecting space and enlarges the storage reservoir. Above the water-collecting space, the outer container has, in one wall, at least one opening which leads to the environment and is closed by a closure part which can be removed as required. The slots extend beyond the vertical level of the opening of the outer container. The planting vessel prevents water escape during watering, allows a holiday supply and air circulation between earth and water and makes possible both earth cultivation and water cultivation. When used outside, the closure part is removed and bottom-side accumulated moisture is prevented by water drainage from the water-collecting space, which has been made possible.
