In a process for preparing mixtures inside a closed mixer housing having a mixing unit, metering devices for starting components and a discharge opening, a continuous comparison of set and actual mixing conditions is made possible by using a television camera, arranged in the upper region of the housing above the mixing, and a lamp, adjusted to the wavelength range of the greatest sensitivity of the television camera, as well as a television monitor, arranged outside the mixer housing, for the comparison of these mixing conditions. An apparatus used for this is characterised in that a high-resolution television camera (8), directed obliquely at the material being mixed, is arranged on the cover (7) of the mixer housing (1) in such a way in front of a housing opening (9) that no light from outside passes through the housing opening (9), and a lamp (19) is arranged in such a way within a further housing opening (18) in the cover (7) that the cone of light (20) of the lamp (19) is directed at an angle with respect to the pick-up cone (21) of the television camera (8) onto the mixture in the mixing unit (2). <IMAGE>
