Novel charge transfer complexes of N,N'-biscyanoquinonediimines of the formula <IMAGE> and fulvalene derivatives of the formula <IMAGE> In formula I, R<1>, R<2>, R<3> and R<4> independently of one another represent -H, -CH3, -C2H5, -OCH3, -OC2H5, -Cl and/or -Br, one of the radicals R<1> or R<2> and/or R<3> or R<4> also represents phenyl or tert-butyl or R<1> and R<2> and/or R<3> and R<4> together represent <IMAGE> where the fused aromatic ring is optionally substituted. In (II), R<5>, R<6>, R<7> and R<8> independently of one another represent -H, -CH3, -C2H5, phenyl, methylphenyl or methoxyphenyl or R<5> and R<6> and/or R<7> and R<8> together represent <IMAGE> where n = 3, 4 or 5, and X and Y independently of one another represent S or Se. In the crystalline state, the charge transfer complexes exhibit electrical conductivity and are therefore suitable for use as electrical semiconductors and photoconductors. Also novel biscyanoquinoneimines of the formula (I) in which R<1>, R<2>, R<3>, R<4> have the given meaning and a novel process for the preparation of (I).
