摘要 1,230,235. Lift engines on aircraft. MESSERSCHMITT-BÍLKOW-BLOHM. 4 Sept., 1969 [13 Sept., 1968], No. 43892/69. Heading B7G. [Also in Division B8] A VTOL or STOL aircraft is provided on each side of the fuselage 70 with a pair of engines 60 mounted on mechanism on which the engines 60 may be extended out of or retracted into the fuselage 70. The arrangement is symmetrical: each pair of engines 60 is moved by a jack with a screw 10 driven by a motor 30 through planetary gearing 20 and gear 11. Each screw 10 is pivoted by a lug 18 at 51 to arms 50 carrying the engines 60. The inner end of each jack casing 15 carries a lug 16 pivoted at an axis 12 to a lever 15a pivoted at a fixed pivot 19. The opposite ends of the levers 15a are connected by links 21 to a device 14 for taking up play. The motors 30 are synchronized through shafts 42, a bearing 40 attached to the fuselage 70 and universal joints 43. The point of intersection of the axes of each universal joint 43 lies on the pivotal axis 12 of the associated screw jack. Each motor 30 is capable of driving both jacks should the other motor 30 fail. After extension from the retracted, horizontal position shown in full lines in Fig. 4 the engines are swung into a vertical position, shown ghosted, by means not shown.
