A device for compensation of expansion movements on pipelines (1) which are laid underground consists of a mat (4) which surrounds the pipeline (1) in the region of its critical expansion zones and consists of compressible material which has triangular incisions (7a, 7b) in order to improve the manner in which the mat (4) is laid around the pipeline (1). In order to simplify the arrangement and matching of the expansion cushion on and to expansion zones of different widths, there are only two incisions (7a, 7b), which split the mat into three identical parts (6a, 6b, 6c), and the mat (4) is placed onto the pipeline (1), bent into a U-shape (Fig. 3). <IMAGE>
