Embroidering stations with corresponding embroidering tools are arranged in a relatively large number in at least one row. These tools can be coupled to or uncoupled from the driving means of the embroidering tools by means of electromagnetic actuating devices (13) according to a predetermined repeat program and colour-change program. The pattern and machine-function control on the embroidering machine takes place via a data carrier (10), the reading and evaluating device (11) of which controls the pattern and machine-function control device (9). The data for the repeat and colour-change program are also applied to the data carrier (10) for the pattern and machine-function control, a corresponding information item on the data carrier (10) actuating a change-over switch (12), assigned to the reading and evaluating device (11), for transmitting the repeat and colour-change program to an embroidering-station control (14) connected to the electromagnet actuating devices (13) of the embroidering tools (20, 21). The use of the hitherto existing data carrier for the pattern and machine-function control now also for the repeat and colour-change programs has the great advantage that all the devices for applying or correcting the data on the data carrier, for reading the data and for filing the data carriers can be preserved and the outlay for the change-over means and for the embroidering-station control device is relatively low. <IMAGE>
