The invention relates to an apparatus for the treatment of sheet-like structures, such as leather, skins, textiles and the like, in which the structure is held between the mutually confronting strands of perforated endless belts and is guided through a bath containing a treatment medium. If the design is such that the two strands of the endless belts are guided between the associated deflecting rollers through a shallow wide treatment shaft which is open on the two end faces and which is sealed off, in the region of end faces forming the entry side and exit side, by means of sealing elements bearing against the endless belts, and such that the treatment medium is introduced into the treatment shaft in the region of the entry side or exit side of the latter, is conveyed through the treatment shaft in a flow going in the same direction as or in the opposite direction to the movement of the endless belts and is guided out of the treatment shaft in the region of the exit side or entry side, then both liquid and gaseous treatment media can be used, whilst ensuring a small volume of treatment medium and at the same time improving the effect of the treatment medium on the structure to be treated.
