The invention relates to a gas permeation cell for pressures up to 160 bar and high temperatures, comprising a trough with a cover which can be mounted thereon, a permeation membrane being arranged centrally in the trough, which membrane separates the permeate from the permeant. The object of the invention is to design a gas permeation cell of the type described above in such a manner that it is suitable itself for testing gas permeation membranes and for the economic separation of permeate. The solution is characterised by the following characteristics: a) the permeation membrane is applied to a support, b) collection of the permeate is carried out beneath the support, c) a seal is arranged between the cover and permeation membrane, which seal tightly separates the permeant chamber from the permeate collection chamber and d) the cover is sealed from the trough. The particular advantage of the permeation cell according to the invention lies in the simplicity of handling of the cells into which circular sample pieces of membranes are inserted for testing. For safety reasons, and because of any thermostating required, these membrane tests are always carried out in the water bath, so that particular attention must be paid to the sealing, since the gas membranes on, for example, water uptake, become absolutely gas-tight, and thus unsuitable for separations.
