A KE-projectile comprises a low-calibre penetrator and a sabot surrounding the latter concentrically and means for the releasable connection of the penetrator and sabot. For more cost-effective production of the projectile, the sabot 11 surrounding the penetrator 10 concentrically is made in one piece and is mounted on balls 14, arranged between the penetrator 10 and sabot 11, so as to be axially displaceable in such a way that, in the event of a relative movement of the sabot 11 in the direction of flight of the penetrator 10, the sabot 11 jams the penetrator 10 with the effect of braking the relative movement and, in the event of a relative movement opposite to the direction of flight of the penetrator 10, it releases the latter. This, in contrast to conventional sabots consisting of a plurality of parts, simultaneously reduces adverse influences on the trajectory of the penetrator during the operation of detaching the sabot from the latter. <IMAGE>
