1301684 Reinforcing plastics tubes MANUFACTURE DE MACHINES DU HAUTRHIN SA 6 March 1970 [7 March 1969] 11001/70 Heading F2P A method for large scale manufacture of glass-fibre reinforced epoxy resin tubes is characterized by the feature that the viscosity of the resin-mixture used is adjusted to be in the range of 400-900 cp. with an epoxide equivalent of from 120 to 180 by the use of diluents having a viscosity from 3.5 to 200 cp. a boiling point of from 120 to 300‹ C. and an epoxide equivalent of from 70 to 180. Hardening of the resins in the method of the invention is performed by the addition of aliphatic or aromatic amino or anhydride type hardeners of viscosity ranging from 10 to 500 cp. The hardeners may either be dimethylaminomethylphenol or 2, 4, 6-tri- (dimethylaminomethyl)-phenol or a mixture of the two preferably in equal proportions. Diluents with viscosity in the lower range of 3À5 to 200 cp. are recommended for mass production of tubes which need not have high mechanical strength; for other tubes special diluents are recommended. A silane, e.g., Beta (3, 4-epoxy cyclohexyl)-ethyl-trimethoxysilane or Gamma-aminopropyl-triethoxysilane may be added to the extent of 0À1 to 5À0% to provide the tubes with a good surface-finish. An initial layer of polyester fibres impregnated with an epoxy resin may be incorporated. |
