PURPOSE:To shorten the processing time for recording and reproducing by using a read/write head which is sought by an oscillation mechanism in addition to a fixed servo head and performing the recording and reproducing by the read/ write head synchronously with the access of the oscillation mechanism. CONSTITUTION:A servo head 2B is held by a fixed member 12 via a gimbal 4 so as to positioned at the outer circumference of a medium 1. While a read/write head 2A is held by an actuator mechanism 10 via the gimbal 4. For the recording surface of the medium 1, the widths L3 and L4 are defined as a data area and a servo area respectively. Then a track of a curved line (d) is formed in the data area. Here a home position is set at the outer circumferential part, and the head 2A is always set at the home position. For recording and reproducing, a track is first selected by the head 2B. With this selection of the track, an access is given to the mechanism 10. Then the head 2A is shifted toward the inner circumferential part of the home position and at the same time the data is recorded and reproduced. After the recording and reproducing are through, the head 2A is reset to the home position. In this way, the access time of the mechanism 10 is eliminated. |
