PURPOSE:To reduce the amount of loaded propellant by decomposing the hydrogen molecules as propellant into hydrogen atoms by high-frequency discharge and obtaining a thrust by utilizing the thermal energy liberated in the case when the hydrogen atoms are recombined in a reaction chamber and hydrogen molecules are formed. CONSTITUTION:The hydrogen molecules as propellant are pressurized to a prescribed pressure by the pressurized gas. When a propellant valve 3 is opened by a driving signal, propellant passes through a piping 1 and the cooling tower 13 of a reaction chamber and is introduced into an RF (high frequency) discharge chamber 11 from the propellant valve 3 through a feed tube 4. In said RF discharge chamber, hydrogen molecules are decomposed to hydrogen atoms through the RF discharge by use of an RF antenna 10. Then, the pressure in the reaction chamber 12 is increased by the thermal energy which is liberated in the case when the hydrogen atoms in the reaction chamber 12 are recombined to form hydrogen molecules, and the hydrogen molecules are provided with kinetic energy and discharged into the universe space from a nozzle 9. |
