The chuck has a nut part (1) at the bottom end and a frustoconical part (2) integrally formed on the nut part (1) as well as a cylindrical part (3). A location opening (4) for inserting a tap (41) is arranged in the centre of these parts, its diameter being slightly larger than a shank part (42) of the tap (41). The opening (4) has top and bottom concave grooves at its inner periphery. Each of these grooves contains a rubber O-ring (8). When the shank part (42) is inserted, these rings bear fully against the shank part (42) and firmly hold the tap (41) in the clamped position. Fine bores (33) extend outwards from the grooves so that a pin can be inserted through these bores for removing the O-rings (8). The cylindrical part (3) is provided diametrically with a locking hole (34). The two inner surfaces (35) of the locking hole (34) lock the prismatic section (43) of the shank of the tap (41) against rotation.
