This device can demodulate recorded information exactly even though transit-time velocity, head position and regenerative level of the tape recorder are not uniform. After wave shaping of the regenerative demodulation signal(a) at a desired level in the magnetic tape, (A) is compared with an arbitrary critical level(B) to determine the output signal. When (A) is greater than (B), (B) is the output signal, and when (A) is less than (B), a new critical level, which is an average of the previous and the preset regenerative signals, comes to be the output signal, as compared with the previous referenc of critical level.
