Web transverse stretching cylinder having a rotary sleeve journalled on a stationary shaft has the shaft arranged as a hollow cylinder whose interior is subdivided by partition wall into an upper chamber and a lower chamber, the chambers being interconnected by radial ducts to recirculate lubricant which is supplied to the upper chamber in an atomised state. High speed cylinder has its rotary sleeve provided with adequate lubrication.
