The invention relates to products which absorb liquids. It relates, in particular, to litter for animals, particularly for cats, characterised in that it consists of particles of calcium silicate hydrate. Preferably, use is made of ground industrial waste for producing this litter. The invention also relates to a method for preparing the litter according to the invention which consists in grinding calcium silicate hydrate waste, in screening the ground particles obtained in order to remove those particles which are too fine, and in washing the screened particles with water in order to remove any dust adhering to the screened particles.
