Claimed process allows the preferential deposition of metals or metal alloys to a predetermined pattern in plastic or laminated sheets. S matrix (1) is first submitted to a number of successive pretreatments and provided with a printed image (2) before being suspended in a bath of suitable electrolyte. It remains in the bath until a metal layer (3) of desired thickness has been deposited on the regions of bare metal (4). After removal from the bath the printed image is removed by an appropriate solvent.
