The wire tightener has a bearing body 1 which can be placed on a wire 13 by means of cut-outs 11 and 12 starting from its underside in the transverse walls. The tightening spindle 2 can be inserted into bearing holes 8 and 9 in sections 4 and 5 of the longitudinal walls of the bearing body 1, a slot 16 starting from the insertion end 15 of the tightening spindle 2 and intended for the passage of the wire receiving the wire 13. The tightening spindle has a ring 18 of ratchet teeth 19 with which a pawl 3 pivotably mounted on the bearing body 1 can interact, the pawl being pivotable between a rest position, in which the tightening spindle 2 can be inserted into the bearing body 1, and an operating position in which it interacts with the ratchet teeth 19 and, at the same time, prevents the tightening spindle 2 from sliding axially out of the bearing body 1. <IMAGE>
