A cowl (4) for a chimney pot (1) which can be affixed on a masking frame (2) attached to the chimney pot (1) by a plurality of supports (3) - preferably four - has a substantially rectangular metal sheet (6) and two split gutters (5) which are attached on two mutually opposite edges of the metal sheet (6). The cowl is so produced that two split gutters are deflected, a substantially rectangular cowl sheet is cut to measure, both corresponding to the size of the chimney to be covered, the two split gutters are attached to two mutually opposite edges of the cowl sheet, and the cowl is fixed on the supports, a curvature being formed in the cowl sheet by making it oversized. <IMAGE>
