The invention relates to a device for starting and supplying gas-discharge lamps. According to the invention, the gas-discharge lamp is started and supplied from any desired voltage, a rectifier being used for conversion into a DC voltage if an AC voltage is used. The current (a) from this DC voltage source is passed via a transistor chopper circuit (2) to the primary winding (4) of a transformer (5).
