The device for preopening the bag valve has suction strips 8 and 9 which engage with the upper and lower sides of the bag valve when the bag 1 is horizontal and carry out preopening of the valve by movement in opposite directions. A pin 18 is inserted into the preopened valve, the cross-section and outline of this pin 18 corresponding to the cross-section and outline of the filling piece 28 of a filling machine 27. The valve is therefore shaped with the pin 18. The pin is supported by an arm 19, which is mounted so as to be pivotable about an axle 21 so that by means of the pin and the arm, the valve can be moved into the position shown in Fig. 5 in which the bag is accepted by a bag gripper 23. The clamping jaws 24 of the bag gripper are shaped in accordance with the outline of the pin 18, which is pulled out of the valve when the clamping jaws have come into contact with the bag. The bag, which has been separated from the suction strip 7 by removing the partial vacuum in that suction strip, is then transported by means of the bag gripper to the filling piece 28 of the filling machine 27 (Fig. 5). <IMAGE>
