In horticulture, it is difficult to keep the "snail" pest away from the plantations without using poison. The invention solves this problem in a natural manner similar to thorny stems, such as e.g. on the rose. According to the drawing, the plantation to be protected is surrounded by a strip fitted with spines. The snails avoid such paths because the spine points do not offer them the adhesive surface necessary for crawling over. <IMAGE>
