PURPOSE:To obtain time-sharing characteristics and to widen a visual angle by adding an optical rotatory substance to nematic liquid crystals and according liquid crystal orientation directions of both bases almost with the direction of the bisector of an angle contained between the absorption axes or polarizing axes of a pair of polarizing plates. CONSTITUTION:An optical rotatory substance is added to nematic liquid crystals to give a twisted angle of almost 270 deg., an angle contained in the polarization or absorption axes 13, 14 of a pair of polarizing plates is made nearly 90 deg., and said axes 13, 14 are adjusted so as to coincide with the direction of bisectors of an angle contained in the liquid crystal orientation directions of both electrode bases. As a result, a TN type liquid crystal display element good in time-sharing characteristics and wide in visual angle can be obtained by using such a structure. |
