PURPOSE:To increase the adhesion area, where a sealing material is brought closely into contact with substrates, to improve the reliability of sealing, by expanding one of two plastic substrates in a seal entrance part of a liquid crystal in comparison with the other to make a step. CONSTITUTION:Facing peripheral parts of two plastic substrates 11 and 12 whose facing surfaces are provided with electrode patterns are adhered to each other with an organic sealing material while leaving the seal entrance part of the liquid crystal as it is to form an envelope, and the liquid crystal is sealed into the envelope from the seal entrance part, and said seal entrance part is sealed up with a sealing material 17 to constitute a liquid crystal display element. In this liquid crystal display element, one of two plastic substrates 11 and 12 is expanded in said seal entrance part in comparison with the other to make a step. Since the adhesion area of the sealing material 17 consists of an end face 11a and an expanded face 12b by making a step between substrates 11 and 12 in this manner, the adhesion area where a sealing material 3 is brought closely into contact with substrates is widened. Thus, the reliability of sealing is improved. |
