A self-discharging sludge centrifuge comprises at least one breakdown indicator and a timing device which is started by the indicator when a breakdown occurs. When the timing device has run for a predetermined time period, it interrupts the operation of the centrifuge if the indicator indicates that the breakdown is still present. The timing device, when the breakdown occurs, also initiates a sequence of switching operations during which a first switching device initiates desludging of the centrifuge drum and a second switching device sets off an alarm signal if the breakdown is not eliminated within a further predetermined time period The arrangement may be such that the desiludging process is repeated once if the breakdown is not removed by a single desludging, and that operation of the centrifuge is not resumed if the breakdown is not eliminated after the second desludging. Anelectrical control circuit illustrating the sequence of the switching operations when breakdown occurs is described.</p> |
