PURPOSE:To prepare a prepreg of carbon fiber reinforced composite material with high mechanical properties, heat resistance, etc. by a method wherein bundles of sheet-like continuous carbon fiber and thermoplastic resin molded in a film form are laminated one upon another, then compressed, melted, while carbon fiber is impregnated with the resin so that they are incorporated into one body by compacting. CONSTITUTION:Bundles 1 of sheetlike continuous fiber and thermoplastic resin films 2 that are stretched nearly in parallel in one direction are laminated as they are passed through feed rolls 3, then as the laminated sheet 4 is compressed by heating pressure rolls 5 resin is melted and carbon fiber is impregnated with the resin by the pressure between the rolls. Then, the resin is cooled and hardened through the cooling rolls 6, changes into a unidirectional prepreg 7 and wound up by a winding roll 8. Before both sides of the laminated sheet enter the heating pressure rolls 5, they are covered with release papers 9, 10 to prevent the molten resin from sticking to the surfaces of the heating roll. |
