PURPOSE:An antiviral agent, containing a component obtained by extracting Crocosmia x crocosmaeflora N.E.Br. or Tritonia crocosmaeflora Lemoine) as an active constituent, and capable of inactivating influenza viruses. CONSTITUTION:An antiviral agent containing a component obtained by extracting Crocosmia x crocosmaeflora N.E.Br. or Trionia crocosmaeflora Lemoine as an active constituent. The component is extracted from the whole herb, rhizome or a dried material thereof obtained from the Crocosmia x crocosmaeflora N.E.Br. or Tritonia crocosmaeflora lemoine with a solvent, e.g. water or lower aliphatic alcohol, within about 0 deg.C- the boiling point temperature range under ordinary or higher pressure. The inactivation test on influenza viruses of the above-mentioned extracted component using grown hen's eggs shows no toxicity to the grown hen's eggs but inactivation effect on the influenza viruses depending on the viral concentration and sensitization time. |
