In a yarn feeding device for a circular knitting machine elastic crimped yarn two frusto-conical rollers A,B are provided which are geared to rotate at the same angular velocity the yarn being fed by a smaller diameter on roller A than roller B to produce variations in yarn tension through the device. The yarn is stretched between the drums A,B and the tension then relaxed below the decrimping tension so that the yarn assumes a hysteresis characteristic allowing a variation in tension without the production of an appreciable variation in length. In further embodiments (not shown) one or both of the rollers may be replaced by a roller and co-acting band. The surface of the rollers is covered by a high friction rubber material. |
