Folded signatures 10 are delivered from conveyors 12, 13 to a rotating holding clamp 18, 19 where they are held with their edges overlapping the surfaces of the clamp. The clamp is then rotated in a counter-clockwise direction to bring the clamped signature into contact with blades 16, 17, where the edges of the signature are trimmed off. The clamp is then rotated a second time in the same direction to a position at which the clamp is deactivated to release the trimmed signature 11 onto a stack 5, optionally via an 5-fly wheel 38, 39. The stack 5 may be rotated periodically through 180 DEG by activation of motor 44 to produce a stack compensated for the increased thickness of the folded signature at the fold. <IMAGE>
