PURPOSE:To reduce the number of shift registers and to simplify an external controlling circuit by aligning continuously an photoelectric conversion element arrays arranged two-dimensionally and the number of cells necessary for reading the photoelectrically converted charge by these arrays, and placing crokedly a electron coupling element. CONSTITUTION:An array of photoelectric conversion elements LS and the number of CCD cells CL1-CLn necessary for reading the photoelectrically converted charge by the array are arranged continuously in an image pickup device. The CCD cells CL1-CLn are arranged crookedly as a charge coupling element to reduce the number of shift registers used in the image pickup device, and an amplifier AP is connected to the final CCD cell CLn. Thus, the number of shift registers is reduced and the external controlling circuit is made simple. |
