In order to improve the heat transfer in a heat exchanger, one or more tubes 11 for a heat transfer medium are mounted by casting in a block 12a which consists of an aluminium alloy or another metal which has a high heat-conducting capacity. On its outer surfaces, the block 12a has surface-area-increasing flanges and is enclosed in a housing 13 which delimits a passage for a second heat transfer medium which flows around the block 12a. A block can be prismatic or annular, and a number of blocks can be arranged in one and the same housing. <IMAGE>
