The invention comprises thiamine derivatives of formulae and their salts with pharmaceutically acceptable acids and bases, having Vitamin B 1 activity. They are prepared by reacting thiamine O- phosphate with CH 3 -O-Z-COOH or a functional derivative thereof, where Z is 1,4- butylene or 1,4-phenylene, in an alkaline medium and, if desired, converting the product into a salt. Examples are given. The above compounds may be used in medicinal compositions with suitable carriers. In examples, tablets are prepared from compounds of the invention, together with lactose, corn starch, polyvinylpyrrolidone, talc and magnesium stearate. Other carriers are mentioned. |
