PURPOSE:To enable to discriminate a recording condition without adding any signal wire, by a method wherein transistors for a cassette fitting detecting switch and a ribbon-detecting photo-sensor are provided on the side of a cassette holder, in a combined thermal transfer printer and thermal printer. CONSTITUTION:In the condition wherein a cassette 9a is not fitted to the holder, a mechanical switch 34 is in an OFF state, so that an electric current is supplied to the base of a transistor Q1 through a resistor 36 to trun ON the transistor Q1, resulting in that a detection terminal 37 is set to a low level, and an alarm is not operated. When the cassette 9a is fitted, the switch 34 is turned ON, and the transistor Q1 is turned OFF. When a ribbon surface of the cassette is located between a light-emitting element 31 and a light-receiving element 32, the element 32 is turned OFF, so that a transistor Q2 is turned ON through a resistor 39, and the detection terminal 37 is set to a low level. However, when a transparent part provided at the trailing end of the ribbon is brought into position, the element 32 is turned ON, so that the detection terminal 37 is set to a high level, and the alarm is operated. |
