Methylene chloride is stabilised against decomposition during storage or use by incorporating a stabilising mixt. of (1) a vicinal epoxide, and (2) an aliphatic monoether oxide. Cpds. (1) and (2) have a synergistic stabilising action, and provide the methylene chloride with an excellent stability, even when used at relatively low concns. These cpds. also show a good compatibility with methylene chloride, and do not tend to form tar, e.g. during use as degreasing agents for metals. Pref. (1) is 1,2-epoxypropane and (2) is diethyl ether or ethyl vinyl ether. The total amount of the stabilising mixt. is 0.001-10 wt.%, based on methylene chloride.
|
