[Also in Division C3] A floor covering is provided with a polyurethane foam backing by applying, e.g. by spraying, a reaction mixture containing a linear or slightly branched polyester polyol having a hydroxyl number of 40 to 100, a polyether diol or triol of MW 700-7000, a blowing agent and a diisocyanato diary alkane composition containing 5-70% wt. of related polyaryl polyalkylene polyisocyanates of functionality greater than two, the polyester polyol polyether polyol ratio being in the range 100:3 to 100:100. The polyester polyol may be made from a variety of specified dicarboxylic acids and polyhydric alcohols and a pentarythritol modified polydiethylene adipate is used as the Examples. As in the process described in Specification 1,271,235, up to 15% wt. of the polyether polyol of a polyol of MW 100-600 having 2-8 OH groups may be included; the preferred polyether polyols are polyoxypropylene diol or triol and the oxyethylated derivatives, the blowing agent e.g. water, halogenated hydrocarbons is preferably present in amounts 0.5-60% wt. and diisocyanato diaryl methane compositions are preferably used mixed with 5-90% tolylene diisocyanate. The total polyisocyanates present preferably provide an isocyanate to active hydrogen ratio between 0.8:1 to 1.3:1. Catalysts, e.g. tertiary amines, amine salts or metal salts of organic acids, surface active agents, foam stabilisers pigments, flame retardants and plasticisers may also be included. Linoleum, vinyl or carpets of woven or tufted structure composed of wool, regenerated cellulose e.g. viscose rayon, polyamide, acrylic or polyester fibres.</p> |
