A self-opening die head comprises a body portion 10 having chasers 14 slidably mounted thereon, a chaser control cam carrier (which has an arcuate boss 28) angularly displaceable relative to the body portion between a first position in which the chasers are in an operative position and a second position in which the chasers are in an inoperative position, a toggle linkage (link 26 and arcuate handle 32) interconnecting said chaser control cam carrier and said body portion 10 in such a way that when the linkage is closed the chasers are in said first position and when the linkage is open the chasers are in said second position, manual means, handle 32, for operating the linkage, spring loaded means, plunger 42, mounted in the body portion 10 and capable of opening the toggle linkage, and trigger mechanism operable to hold the plunger in a linkage closed position until a predetermined number of threads have been cut in a workpiece. The trigger mechanism includes a slide 54 which lies in the path of an advancing workpiece and which is slidably mounted in a frame formed by plates 48, the frame being pivotally mounted on the. body portion (by a pin 56). The slide 54 has a projection that engages in a groove 42b in the plunger 42. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 962,537.</p> |
