A gas-fuelled lighter has an igniter mechanism and a burner valve which are operable by an actuating member 2 which can be swung out from the main contour of the lighter about a vertical axis. As shown in Fig. 1, the actuating member consists of portions of the side surfaces 22 and 23 and a portion of the top surface 21 of the main contour of the lighter in the non-operative condition thereof. A filler valve 15, a flame orifice 14, a flame adjustment device 16, slots 18 to admit air, and the burner valve may be arranged so that they are covered by the actuating member 2 in the non-operative position of the lighter. Detents may be provided for retaining the actuating member 2 in an operative and a non-operative position, and vertical grooves 23 on a raised area may be provided on one of the faces of the actuating member to facilitate gripping. In one embodiment (Fig. 4, (not shown), the member (2) is connected to the igniter mechanism by a torsion spring accommodated vertioally in a corner of the housing (1) of the lighter. In the embodiment of Fig. 9 a cover 4 is provided for the filler valve 15, the flame adjustment device 16 and an inspection glass 17.</p> |
