PURPOSE:To increase the performance and the utilization rate of a positive plate for an alkaline battery by using as an additive for the active material an alloy powder composed of Ni and Co and obtained by thermally decomposing a mixture gas consisting of nickel carbonyl and cobalt carbonyl. CONSTITUTION:A mixture consisting of gaseous nickel carbonyl and cobalt carbonyl is subjected to thermal decomposition to make an alloy powder composed of Ni and Co. Next, a mixture consisting of about 10-30wt% of the alloy powder and nickel hydroxide powder is combined with an aqueous carboxymethylcellulose solution or the like to make a paste. After that, the paste is packed into an active-material-supporting body consisting of a spongy porous nickel body or a nickel steel having a three-dimensionally continuous structure. By the means mentioned above, the conductivity of the positive plate is increased, the oxygen production overvoltage during charging is increased and the utilization rate of the active material is improved. |
