<p>A machine which removes the wearing surface of a tyre before resurfacing includes a number of ring shaped cutting bits held between two disks which are fixed together. The disks rotate at right angles to the tyre and a speed ten times that of the tyre. Material is removed from the tyre by a slicing action and discharged through the open centres of the rings which also provide air cooling. As exposed bit cutting edges becomes worn the bits are turned in the disk groove and rings are quickly replaced by loosening the two disks. Disposal of chips is easier and there is less tendency to overheat.</p> |
